I quit smoking about 5 yrs ago cold turkey, as they say. I find myself
missing it often as it was the central preoccupation of my life for many
years. I think I’ll miss it until the day I day die. If I were diagnosed
with a terminal illness tomorrow and knew for a fact that it was over for
me, I’d buy a pack of cigarettes and cup of coffee immediately and smoke
nonstop until the end. Almost everyone on the maternal side of my family
smoked heavily (also alcoholics), so I imagine there’s some genetic
component to it, as well
12 years ago I used to drink 4 liters of soda a day and I quit overnight.
I hadn’t read Allen Carr’s book, but after I found out about the book, I
realized how similar it was to my view of soda, which helped me to quit
successfully. I wish Allen Carr had expanded away from just talking about
smoking. This book ought to be about quitting any addiction.
It was tough to give up coz i smoked for 7 years. I made several attempts
but were not successful. I quit smoking only when I realized and wanted to
quit. I quit and never smoked a puff after. It requires a strong will
power. No need to buy or read books and blogs. Just be strong minded and
drink a lot of water. Dont go for cut down on cigarettes and quit smoking
slowly because you will start it again when you are around friends or
depressed. It takes a single day to quit smoking and that should be the end
of it. Good luck!
I started smoking at 19. ill be 23 soon. I feel extremely lethargic and
sick everytime I smoke and I realize I don’t need it. I am so health
conscious so its even crazy that I smoke. Ive used cigarettes as a safety
net sounds crazy but its the only thing I can take my stress and anxiety
out on. Im just so sick of feeling dizzy. maybe its because im getting
older. but I just cant do it anymore. I just need to find something else
I can do that is within that mindset of “life sucks so im gonna_______”
meditation is too hard to do when youre feeling like you wanna smoke. youre
feeling negative and its too hard to be positive when you want a drag. idk
if im making any sense to anyone but its just fucking hard. I guess im
gonna have to buy a bunch of candy. maybe that will help
Yes! ‘Wrap your mind around the addiction’. Understanding how and why your
addiction works is a vital psychological tool that can help you to kick the
habit! (How many people who smoke really know why they do it, and what
effect it is really having on them?) Understand the nature of the beast!
P.S. If you gonna do it cold turkey, you gotta be 100% and do not have a
single puff, no matter what happens! Stressed, depressed, anxious, angry,
it will get easier and easier as time goes on and you will begin to stop
thinking about the poison!
as it is really only me , my siblings and uncle(only when drinking) smoke
and the ex smokers in my family have tried patches,sprays,inhalers gum etc
and have all gave up going cold turkey,me personaly have tried only patches
and gum, patches everyday for 10 days done that 3 times did not seem to
work,tried cold turkey got to around 2 weeks once,so when i get a few
stresses out the way gonna try the hypnotisim thing if no go there say
hello to cold turkey again,if know cold turkey works i am going camping by
myself for two weeks no ciggys at all and see how i go when i come back
…anyways each to their own and i am glad that book helped you and many
others….on a side note in between cutting down on cigarettes and or
quiting i have used electronic cigarettes and i do highly recommend them,
and instead of buying refils buy a whole bottle of nicotine which you can
dilute,and the only downside is when you got no juice and ya need ya
nicotine but are good to swap around every now and then …….hope i help
….. AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT SAY CANNABIS IS A GATE WAY DRUG I THINK

first about 1 year ago. Now I’m quitting smoking and never felt better, the
confidence I regained and time wasted is just crazy

Congrats on your success, it is really something to be proud of! I bought
the book and just began reading it. I like the way that it is making me
feel toward quitting, I am hoping that it works for me as good as it has
worked for so many. I am not a heavy smoker, never smoked more than half a
pack in a day and have only been doing it for three years. But I want to
take care of this addiction before I have been doing it for 20 or so

For the first week, I would get up from my desk, go out in the smoking area
and just stand there for 5 mins without smoking. A cigarette stays with us
for only 5 minutes. After that, we are alone again.
