Dr Peter Attia – The Straight Dope on Cholesterol
Cholesterol is not the enemy to heart health.
Does this guy get younger every year??
Just to edify; My A1c and lipid panel had my Dr ready to put me on statins
and insulin. 5 months on keto and my levels are great to excellent. I lift,
eat beef, and don’t cardio my gains away. My testosterone levels are better
too. I go to privatemdlabs when the Dr doesn’t think it’s worth testing. My
Naturopath understands hormones and cortisol as useful to know – and even
tests for Vitamin D, which my Dr wont.
If you want to improve you Cholesterol I suggest Real Butter and Coconut
oil. It makes your small LDL(considered bad as it clogs the arteries) plump
up and become healthy again. I have heard that there are actually 5
different HDL type Cholesterol and 5 Different LDL type cholesterol, but it
is the small LDL particles that is the problem from over consumption of
Poly Unsaturated fats in the form of Omega 6 fats in to much process foods
and vegetable oils that are genetically modified etc. I say eat real Medium
Chain Triglycerides and try to moderate your Long chain Triglycerides,
because it is a longer process and puts more pressure on your gallbladder
and your liver. It also has to go into the form of LCFAcetyl-carnitine, it
is just a longer process to become used as energy. So 6-12 carb atom fats
is what I would primarily consume on average from the studies I have seen.
Before major surgery I water-fasted for 3.5 days to get fasting BG to 65
then ate 80% fat, 15% protein, 5% carb, ~700 Calories for 18 days. Also
lost 20 lbs. I was spec’d to be in hospital for 4-5 days but was out 47
hours later. Nurses and doctors were amazed at the fast healing. So
something about low BG and fat diet and inflammation. Truly something!
It’s amazing that this level of stuff is available on YouTube. People like
Attia are apostates, and the internet allows us to study at their feet.
What a shame that most of the commentators on this video are as thick as
two short planks.
Thank you for re-uploading this talk with the visual aids included in the
video. This makes it much easier to absorb the info. Cheers.
Cliffs: Cholesterol=gooood :-P
Excellent lecture. Thank you.
This video is near the top of the search results when you search for
“cholesterol,” which is really a shame, because the high saturated fat,
high cholesterol foods Attia promotes are NOT heart healthy and raise ApoB,
which Attia himself ironically calls the best predictor of heart disease
alongside LDL-P.
Pick the Charlatan (The NuSI Guys, Part 10)
No OXIGEN no LIFE, but try to breath pure oxigen it would be toxic.
Dr. Attia is F-ing HOT! EWEEE!
I will eat whatever you say. LOL
Hi drcldrcl, Dr Lustig was hinting to the idea that small dense LDL is what
gets stuck in the arterial walls and that this small dense is made form
dietary carbs. The large buoyant LDL (the one that does not seem to stick)
seems to come from dietary fats. This I got from ‘sugar the bitter truth’
I’m actually curious to hear what you believe to be a beneficial diet for
reducing risk of cardiovascular disease.
great one! good Dr! you can also check out this “cholesterol” mobile app by
lokesh which has -proactive management of bad cholesterol -beautiful talk
on pshcyo-somatic reasons for cholesterol i am benefited..
urgh, vegan arguments for the health benefits and morality benefits are
looking weaker and weaker.
I believe there is a small mistake in the presentation: On the graphs
starting at 32:00 it states ‘fructose’ instead of ‘sucrose’. However, Peter
says they got 25% of their carbs as ‘sucrose’ (sugar). I am not sure
whether the graph is correct, or what Peter says is correct. Anybody knows?
In 1975, I was talked into switching from my Vegan life style to the new
Paleo Diet, “to get bigger & stronger”; ten months ago, at age 50, I almost
died from Heart Disease, High Blood Pressure, Type II Diabetes, Kidney
Stones, Gout and Prostate Issues. I switched back to VEGAN (no salt, no
oil), lost 130 lbs and have completely reversed or cured ALL of the above
Diseases and Issues. I eat ALL the High Carb/Low Fat Fruits & Vegetables I
want. see: The Starch Solution
I think you missed the point
no doubt you can affect your cholesterol with beta glucans, but you must
continue eating them to keep it low.
my friend has been eating oats 5 days a week for breakfast for the past
year. he intends to keep at it. I eat a bowl of cooked oats daily for the
past 2 months. sometime I eat oats for 2 meals. I add different stuff to
the oats to keep myself from getting sick of eating it, raisins , nuts ,
bananas , a teaspoon of honey. i find that oats keep me full longer and
gives steady energy compared to the white rice i used to eat.
Dr Attia never recommends following a low-carbohydrate diet to prevent
cardiovascular disease, he’s just summarising the basics of cholesterol
biochemistry and some research that shows low carbohydrate diets favourably
affecting LDL levels.
I tend to agree, I was thinking the exact thing.
so having sex for man is good? because it reduce colestrol?
a lot of people would disagree with you …cholesterol is a money making
scam by the pharmaceutical companies
All that a patient wants to know about cholesterol and was too afraid to ask
I have 69HDL, 72LDL, 36 triglycerides. The doctors in Italy ”let” us have
a 170 mg/dL triglyceride maxim and a 130 mg/dL LDL maxim, but have in place
a minimum of 30 mg/dL for both??!!. Can you have to little of a bad thing?
What happens when you are very low on LDL and tryglicerides? You can’t hope
to compensate with the HDL in order to achieve the total cholesterol of 150
- 200 …… yep, they have another interval for that!
Very helpful to undestand that subject, thanks!!
Stopped smoking for 15 years, got stupid and lit a cigarette. Again
addicted and so angry at myself. Good video to give me a boost and stop
smoking again that crap as I also have high cholesterol. Wonder if anyone
has been just a stupid, lol!

My cholesterol is 237. I blame it to the coffee creamer.
every one have to know
A useful resume of essential knowledge.
I love coconut oil but I accept that it isn’t good for someone with bad
cholesterol even though it has some health benefits.
Bllkaka
You keep lying to yourselves and maybe you will be amongst the 60% that die
because heart attack or brain attack …. Good fucking luck to you!
High Cholesterol
awsome
@greg b. I can assure you that “cholesterol” is not a money making
scam. Cholesterol itself isn’t bad. We all have and need this wax-like
substance in our bodies. Learn about the so-called “good” and “bad”
cholesterol, where it comes from, and why it’s important for your health.
0:49 they HAD to add a penis…
Stop nitpicking about this kind of cholesterol and that kind of
cholesterol. Inflammation causes heart disease. Stop eating processed
foods, processed and heated cheap oils and sugars, especially.
I believe it’s all genetic. No heart disease in my family, yet I have a
line of cousins who are eat up with with – the gene was brought into their
line by a bloodline not related to my side of the family. Among my cousins
the longevity record is 54 for the men, and only a few more years for the
women. They all walk around with “zipper chests” from bypass surgeries.
The youngest one was going to beat the curse and ate like a bird his whole
life, was a competitive runner and athlete, and had his first heart attack
at 36, his fatal one at 48 — diet and exercise didn’t improve his
longevity a year. My side of the family has the exact same general diet
and lifestyle as our cousins, but zero coronary artery disease. I’m social
security age and just had a series of gold-standard heart tests and have
the cardiac plumbing of a teenager. We all gotta go, but mine won’t be a
heart attack even if I ate nothing but salt pork my entire life.
Cholesterol levels? Always high on my side, but it does no harm; Don’t
smoke, but wouldn’t make any difference if I did; heartwise anyway.
Unless you have the genetic predisposition, you cannot even give yourself
heart disease. If you do have it, there’s nothing you can do to prevent
the inevitable even if your cholesterol stays at the bottom of the “safe”
range your entire life.
Check International Life Care Hungary on google. They have a final cure
against atherosclerosis and you can also find reviews of every
cholesterol-myth.
