How diabetes occurs and how to treat it.
who ever has gave thumbs down to this probably has diabetes
it’s really helps a lot. hope you can produce a video regarding How cancers
occur… Thank you so & more Power. God Bless
This is one of the best informative and essential videos on diabetes. Thank
you so much. Both my parents suffered from diabetes and passed away due to
this killer illness. I now want to educate innocent people out there on
diabetes.
I feel really sorry for people with diabetes. And Im really worried,
because I could have diabetes, and I think if I have it, it could ruin my
life. Plus I really don’t want to test for it every day. I’ve never had an
injection, and Im really scared of them.
This is a well done video worth watching. The diabetics will get additional
information in a different medium. This will enhance their know-how and
skill in managing their condition.
This is a great overview of diabetes and shows the effect this disease is
having in our country as well as the impact this has on an individual
family. Some people have trouble losing weight because they lack cooking
and shopping skills and are not sure how to read food labels. We try to
provide this information free on our website. please visit

I find it a bit embarrasing and also not very smooth picking up the meter,
glocose-stips and the shoot-hole in skin-thing during my schoolday in
college. But I wold really need to measure my sugar at least 1 time per
hour. Have anyone come up with a good solution to this? Anyone who studies
college and still manages their diabetes and glucose monitoring during the
whole day? Maybe practical soluions or technical solutions. Grateful for
answers.
Look up a video called “Sugar: The bitter truth”. This doctor explains how
cheap, man-made artificial sugars in the north american diet are
responsible for the diabetes epidemic. Basically the food industry is
poisoning us all in order to save a few dollars. After you watch the video,
write or phone your local representatives and demand answers. Millions will
die from this travesty.
I hate being diabetic (type 1) Good video, thanks.
great video. diabetes is a very bad disease
I have diabetes presentation tomorrow, will use this vid. ty
very informative.good job.
I have high blood sugar. Found this out today. I suggest everyone get a
blood test! Gonna go exercise to prevent diabetes
eat raw bittermelon, or drink juice biitermelon. very bitter, but good for
diabetes.
Type 2 and fighting! Great video!
I have type one diabetes and i cope with it pretty well but I hope they
find a cure for it soon
I thought you get type 2 by having sugar in your blood for so long that
your body no longer recognises insulin, and so the glucose stays in your
blood. I consume WAY too much sugar…Im surprised I still have teeth!
obesity does not cause diabetes…..it goes hand in hand with daibetes MOST
of the time. There are thin people with diabetes…even Type II. Since
insulin stores fat then having diabetes with the ensuing increase in
insulin as your body tries to deal with the glucose causes you to gain
weight…but the weight gain is not “causal” to the diabetes…of course
the same foods that make you fat (starches) also aggravate diabetes.

thanks for sharing this video, learned a lot about diabetes.
He didn’t say anything new. People have been trying to figure this out for
so long. I thought he was going to present some evidence either way.
Instead, he said “I’m going to study this from now on.”
intense passion. hats off to him. you don’t see that from most doctors. I
do however disagree with his statements relating to diabetes. I am a young
doctor so my view may change in time as i gain more knowledge and
experience. I do believe unhealthy diet is responsible for causing diabetes
and not the other way around as this doctor put it. Why? well diabetes,
coronary artery disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, cancer, Crohn’s
disease..etc are all lifestyle diseases with strong links to an unhealthy
diet. These diseases have increased in incidence and prevalence over the
last half a century. This is approximately the time where processed foods
were introduced, artificial flavours, sweeteners (aspartame) etc. Our
grandfathers, great-grandfathers lived healthy lives (mainly free from
these chronic diseases) because they ate whole foods, unprocessed full of
nutrients and minerals. We have unfortunately found many substitutes which
are far inferior in quality, nutritious content and in some cases
carcinogenic. The problem with modern medicine and doctors is that we
(doctors) have not been taught nutrition in medical school. Most doctors
don’t know much about medical nutrition. If you ask your doctor what kind
of foods should i be eating to maintain a healthy lifestyle free from
chronic diseases, he will just look at you confused. Doctors have been
taught to prescribe drugs and to treat symptoms. You will be surprised to
see that most chronic diseases that don’t have cures can be successfully
treated with the right healthy diet and lifestyle changes.

why are there 99 dislikes? just sincerely wondering…
Thank you for your humility and honesty on the topic of diabetes. I
recently was diagnoised with type 2 diabetes and I’m trying to understand
this condition. My levels can range at times from 195 all the way down to
76 and being that this is all new to me it can get very confusing. I have
made big changes in my diet and I’m starting to see positive results in my
readings on a consistant basis. Thank you for explaning how differicult it
is to understand this condition for even educated doctors like yourself.
Unfortunetely many doctors are more prone to just treat the condition
without investing the time and energy in finding the causes. I pray
that the medical industry and science become more interested in finding
cures then just making millions from people pain.
Great video! One of the bests of TED Talks
I felt a very similar way to Dr Attia when I was visiting my mother in
hospital following her second or third heart ‘episode’. Three years prior,
she had had her first ‘episode’ and I was training as a personal trainer
and following her brief hospital rehabililtation period (including exercise
classes), I invited her to come on as my client..her doctor suggested I
work with her to help her lose 10kg. My mother started with gestational
diabetes with each of her 5 children and this was upgraded to type 2 a
couple of decades ago. To cut a long story short, I sat beside her bed with
tears of frustration because I ‘knew’ that she wouldn’t be in there if she
had just (like the Dr said) cared just a little. Now, 5 years on, she is
now more overweight and her medications increased for her diabetes, heart
and blood pressure. She might still have diabetes but her heart and the
rest of her body would be a LOT better off
What if obesity could higher the risk of insulin resistance and that
insulin resistance then made people store more fat.
What if genetic variants could put people more at risk of diseases,
whatever your habits are, obese or not.
Complex diseases (diseases that relies both on genetics and environment)
such as cardiac diseases, diabetes and cancers are highly risk dependent.
Let’s talk about cardiac diseases: obesity has been proven to put you at
greater risks for cardiac diseases. Does being obese guaranty you will
contract those diseases? Does being lean guaranty the opposite? Not at all.
Too much factors are involved in those diseases. What we do know is that
risks of contracting those type of diseases are higher for obese than lean
people.
Same goes for cancers. Smoking puts your lung cells at higher risks for
genetic mutations, more mutations = more risk of cancers. Let’s say you’re
born with some mutation on oncogenes (genes that once mutated contribute to
the excessive growth of your cells which can lead to cancers), and that
over time, your cells accumulate mutations as you age (which is normal),
you might develop a cancer at 20 yo with a perfectly healthy lifestyle.
Why am I saying this? It’s just because the doctor seems (from what I
understood) to believe that if a disease known to be associated to obese
people has been contracted by some lean people, obesity is not the cause.
It might not be the cause for him, but it’s still might be the cause for
many. Complex diseases = complex causes.
The message is still very good and profound.
That being said, I believe obesity is a problem that must be addressed.
I believe obesity contributes to many complex diseases.
I believe the FOOD industry is a huge problem.
I believe we should only eat natural unprocessed foods most of the times
(diet lower in fructose, salt, phosphate, which are high in processed
foods).
I believe we should all take care of our health, to reduce the risks of
diseases and let more place in our hospitals.
I believe we should never look down on people, and help them instead.
We all have problems, we all lack motivation in some part of our life, we
all need help from time to time, and being judged usually never helps.
Let’s back each other up, and we’ll have a better world.

There are SO many factors that go into the development of diabetes, and
most of the media, and physicians who do NOT specialize in endocrinology,
are ignorant of the disease. The media, and therefore almost everyone else,
are focused solely on obesity as the primary factor in contracting diabetes.
Genetics play a factor, autoimmune disorders, metabolic deficiencies,
self-induced obesity, unhealthy eating habits… all of these things need
to be considered, and more.
Type 1 diabetes, formerly called Juvenile Diabetes, USUALLY manifests at a
young age and is caused by an autoimmune disease that completely shuts down
the insulin production in the pancreas. Zip. Zero. Nada. Pancreas is dead
to insulin production.
Type 1.5 LADA is T1D which manifests at an older age.
Type 2 diabetes is the one most talked about, bullied over, shamed…
because it’s associated with obesity. All the multiple factors I listed
above have to be considered when dealing with this type of diabetes. It is
not just ONE thing, especially since a good number of thin people also have
Type 2.
Yes, there is some personal responsibility involved in trying to avoid T2,
but let’s also put some blame where it lies. The food industry is a MAJOR
contributor to diabetes with all the chemicals and processed crap put into
what they are trying to pass off as food. It is FAR less expensive to eat
the processed garbage than it is to eat healthy, and people are struggling
financially. Restaurants in the United States need to take lessons from
restaurants in Europe and not overfeed their patrons. Parents need to stop
telling kids to “clean their plates.” When you are full, stop eating.
Period. Food should never be used as a reward.
There are MANY changes needing to take place in the war against diabetes.
Education about the FACTS is the first place to start. Making personal
changes is the next step. Getting involved is another.
Thank you Dr. Attia. I think a lot of doctors judge, believing they have
the answers and that their patients are ignorant. I’ve had to fight my
doctor on the cholesterol issue for several years now. With my current
medical insurance I must comply with their suggestions to keep a lower
premium and better coverage and their standard advice is to eat low fat,
little or no sat fat and a plant based diet. I don’t comply because I
believe they are wrong. Why? Eating that way is how I ended up fat with
very high cholesterol.
Why the hell is he crying?
As far as I know, the most thoroughly and timetested diet (2+ million
years) is/was the pre-agricultural/hunter-gatherer one, which consists of
animal fat (70-80+%) as its main source of fuel; and considering that we’re
still 99.99% genetically the same as we were back then…
What a bad, bad actor.
can i remind all of you we went 10 thousand years eating grain without
obesity or dementia being a problem? yes, modern strains of GM grain are
bad, but i would be more inclined to look at our obsession with synthetic
chemicals we have had for the last 90 years that we have no evolution to
protect us from rather than the food we have evolved to consume over the
last 10 thousand years. that said, the shift to grains caused problems, as
the shift to synthetics and GM will cause problems, but at the end of the
day, more food wins out every time, and it wont stop for you today with an
exploding global middle class population.
Attia is a hypocrite. He gets weepy-eyed about insulin resistance when
there’s SO much evidence linking high-fat and high-meat diets to IR, even
the Bellevue All Meat Trial where the men had prediabetic glucose
tolerance. He also promotes BCAA supplements when BCAAs have been linked to
IR as well via Christopher Newgard’s studies. Put this sleazy fraud out of
business.
It’s humbling to know that a physician can step back and see the human side
of his practice of medicine. God speed in your research!
Hi! Have you ever tried – Dr Rosswill Reverse Diabetes (do a search on
google)? Ive heard some unbelivable things about it and my BF got great
results with it.
for a complex issue, I tend to believe his hypothesis is pretty much on the
mark given how much more added sugar is put into nearly EVERYTHING. Don’t
believe me, start checking ingredient labels. I’ve been really surprised (&
appalled) at somethings that have had high-fructose syrup added when there
seemed to reason, other than to add volume for a higher profit on a
product. Does making something cost less in the short term make it a
responsible decision? I don’t know, but not everyone knows enough to even
check and in today’s world they may not care even if they do know just
because something is now ‘cheap enough’ that they can afford it.
Has no clue atall what he is talking about
